How to come up with a name for your business

One of the biggest struggles for a lot of new business owners, or those who are looking to get into running their own business, is coming up with a catchy and attractive name. Creating a business name is a very important aspect and it should be given some serious thought. You want to think outside of the box, while still being able to portray your goods or services to your customer. This can seem a bit tricky at first, but I assure you that with a little thought and consideration, you’ll have a great name in no time. Let’s talk about some of the things you should keep in mind when it comes time to choose your new business name.

What Should I Keep in Mind While Creating My Business Name?

One of the most important factors in developing a business name is using a term or word that is hard to forget. Now, at the same time, you’re going to want to portray the excellence of your product or services. Many times this can be done with a catchphrase, so you don’t have to limit yourself too much. It’s very important that your customers can briefly see your business name and remember it a week or month down the road. Try to think of something clever or witty and always brainstorm multiple names before taking one as set in stone.

How Should I Go About Creating My Business Name?

You should start by keeping your business model in mind. If you sell wedding dresses, you’re obviously going to want to go with something that is related to fashion, happiness or weddings in general. In essence, you’re going to want to choose a word or phrase that is directly related to your services. Something else you’re going to want to consider is whether or not the domain name is available for the name you decide upon. Sure, we’d all love to own WeddingDresses.com, but it’s just not likely to happen. With that said, it’s important that you don’t entirely base your business name on whether or not the domain is available.

Some Tips for Inspiration

One of the best ways to get ideas for your business name is by looking through some established companies within your niche. Now, you’re not going to want to steal names or anything, but after looking through various businesses you should have at least an idea of which direction you should take.
